2nd ASIAN YOUTH PARA GAMES, TOKYO 2009

The first CDM meeting with the secretariat was held on Friday 17 July 2009 at 3.00 pm. The meeting was held at Mr. Bong Muk Shin's office at Education Ministry, Putrajaya. Among those attended the meeting were Mr.Bong Muk Shin (CDM), Mr. Ramlay Ibrahim (ACDM), Mr. Gulam Ghani (Manager,International Athletic Preparation Department), Mr. G. Mohan (Head of Secretariat), Mr. Mohd Zarawi Ravi (Secretariat from MSSM) an in attendance was Mr. Ahmad Kamal from Mr. Bong's Office. The meeting was held to brief the CDM on what is happening with the preparation of the contingent to the games.
Mr. Bong was very happy with the briefing by the secretariat. He told the secretariat that although he is very busy, he want the secretariat to inform him on what is happening with the contingent. Mr. Bong is serious in the preparation of the athletes towards the games because it is going to be held in fasting month of Ramadhan. He wants to know whether the athletes can sustain the situation or they have to train as normal.
He was very impress on the preparation that have been done with the secretariat. He hopes that the Ministry of Education also can help Malaysian Paralympic Council in preparation of the athletes towards the games.

FINAL ENTRIES

The Technical Department of the 5th ASEAN Para Games is hunting for the countries that are not sending their final entries forms. There is nothing the department can do to finalise the events that are going to be run during the games. The GLC has approved the three sports that are wheelchair basketball, volleyball sitting and tenpin bowling to be in the games although there are only three countries taking part.

The closing date for final entries is 15 July 2009. The latest country sending their entry is Laos to participate in volleyball setting. This makes four countries taking part in this games. The Technical Department has no choice to finalise the events by end of this week.

HIGH PERFORMANCE SPORTS FOR DISABLED PEOPLE CONFERENCE

The National Sports Council of Malaysia has just finished their conference in the Development of High Performance Sports For Disabled Athletes In Malaysia from 28th to 30th July 2009 at Palm Garden Hotel, Putra Jaya. About 250 people attended that conference They came from all over the country to attend the conference. They represented the Malaysian Paralympic Council, all association on disability, government agencies, State Sports Council, Sports and Youth Departments, private and government schools on disability, State Education Departments and individuals that have involved in the development of disabled athletes.
Six papers were presented in the conference and followed by a workshop to discuss on the direction of the program. They were divided in four groups to discuss on the papers presented during the conference. The resolution in the workshop then were presented in the last section of the conference.
The Minister of Youths and Sports officially declare open the conference on 29th July 2009. He was very grateful that he can come and meet the people who really care for the disabled people. He hope that this conference will makes changes for the development of disabled sport in Malaysia. He urged all public sectors and indviduals to come forward to help the Malaysian Paralympic Council in the organising of the 5th ASEAN Para Games that will be held in Kuala Lumpur from 15th to 19th July 2009.

5TH ASEAN PARA GAMES ,CDM PRELIMINARY MEETING

Chef de Mission for the 5th ASEAN Para Games,KL'09 will be having their preliminary meeting in Kuala Lumpur at Summit Hotel from 27th and 28th June, 2009. The meeting will finalise the preparation of the organising committee of KL'09. They will arrive in Kuala Lumpur on 26th June 2009.
In the morning of 27th June 2009, the organising committee will give a briefing on KL'09, 5th ASEAN Para Games. Then followed by the technical and sports committee briefing. Anti Doping, Medical and Classification Committee will follow subsequently. There will be a Press Conference at 12.00 pm. A discussion will be held in the afternoon session to solve the entries, entry fees, arrival and departure of team, classification and Identity and Accreditation Card. On the 28th the delegates will be visiting the venues.
The Secretariat is hoping that all problems can be solve during the meeting to make sure the games runs smoothly.

Launching of Proud Supporters Program

The Proud Supporters Program was launch by Tun Jeanne Abdullah, the wife of Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the ex Prime Minister on 23 June 2009 at Commonwealth Hall, National Sports Council of Malaysia at Bukit Jalil. Attended to the function was YB. Datuk Sri Sabry Chik, Minister of Youths and Sports of Malaysia.


President cum CEO of Malaysian Paralympic Council, Dato' Zainal Abu Zaharin give a briefing on the development of the 5th ASEAN Para Games. The president thank's the government by supporting the MPM with RM4 million ringgit. He call upon all cooperate companies to join the games by giving donation or financial support to MPM.


About 1200 athletes and official will take part in 11 sports that are athletic, swimming, powerlifting, chess, tenpin bowling, badminton, table tennis, sailing, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair basketball and sitting volleyball.

5TH ASEAN PARA GAMES

5th ASEAN Para Games will be held in Kuala Lumpur from 15th to 19th August 2009. The sports that will be taking part are athletic, swimming, powerlifting, badminton, chess, tenpin bowling, table tennis, sailing, sitting volleyball, wheelchair tennis and wheelchair basketball. All the sports will be held in Kuala Lumpur except sailing will be held at Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.
Altogether 11 countries will take part in this games including Timor Leste as invitation. Malaysia will be hosting this games for the second times since 2001 replacing Laos who reject to host the games. With the limited budget by the government, Malaysian Paralympic Council will still runs the games to make sure that there will be no lap for this series. Malaysia as the host will make sure the games run smoothly.

2ND ASIAN YOUTH PARA GAMES

Malaysian contingent to the 2nd Asian Youth Para Game in Tokyo will consist of 40 officials and 44 athletes. The contingent will be headed by Mr. Bong Muk Shin as Chef de Mission and assisted by Mr. Ramlay Ibrahim. Malaysia will take part in athletics (25), boccia (6), goalball (6), swimming (6) and wheelchair tennis (1). This was decided by the Malaysian Paralympic Council (MPC) selection committees on 8th June 2009.
Athletic and swimming are training under the program of National Sports Council of Malaysia (NSC) and the other three sports boccia, goalball and wheelchair tennis are training with their own coaches at their centers in Kuala Lumpur. The contingent will depart Kuala Lumpur on the 8th August 2009. The games will be held during the fasting month of Ramadan.

2ND. ASIAN YOUTH PARA GAMES, TOKYO 2009



The 2nd Asian Youth Para Games will be held in Tokyo, Japan from 11 to 13 September 2009. The games will be competed by all Asian countries under the banner of Asian Paralympic Committee (APC). Only five sports will be competed. The sports are athletic, swimming, boccia, table tennis and goalball. Wheelchair tennis will be a demonstration sport.
